EiTriM recorded their first league win
of the year when they inflicted a heavy defeat on Limerick in Pairc Sean Mac diar- mada
The game was barely a minute old when Keith Beirne registered the first point. Limer- ick replied through Josh ryan but Leitrim regained the advantage when Beirne again benefited from an early delivery and applied the finish. Beirne then struck his and Leitrim’s third point. ryan O’rourke put three between
the sides.
Limerick hit back with another Josh ryan
point. But Leitrim’s fine start was rewarded when Keith Beirne shot low past Limerick
goalkeeper donal O’Sullivan. Moments after his introduction
dean McGovern slotted the ball between the uprights and the
lead was extended further by Beirne. And O’rourke
pointed again.
Jack Heslin contin-
ued the onslaught and
Brendan Gallagher capi- talised on another Limer-
ick mistake. Limerick hit back with a Jamie Lee
point but that was cancelled out by another
fine Brendan Gallagher point before Limerick completed the first half scoring through Josh ryan.
Trailing 1-10 to 0-5 as the second half got underway Limerick reduced the defect through Jamie Lee. Keith Beirne replied but then robbie Bourke found the Leitrim goal.
danny neville brought the Leitrim back to just four, but A Jack Heslin point followed by two pointed frees from Keith Beirne helped calm the nerves.
Sean McSweeney converted a free for Limerick. But Jack Heslin, Keith Beirne (45) and Brendan Gallagher further increased the lead before Keith Beirne put the gloss on a fine win with Leitrim's second goal.
SCORERS – Leitrim: Keith Beirne 2-8 (0-3 frees, 0-1 ‘45’), Jack Heslin, Brendan Gallagher 0-3 each, Ryan
