  Some people fall into the trap that their accountant is too involved in running their business. I think it is dangerous to get accountants and even bank managers involved in running your business, particularly around marketing. That’s your job. They need to stick to the numbers game and what they are good at and give you the data to make good decisions. Yes, consult with them, but remember, they cannot know it all and its dangerous if they think they do.
There is often a reluctance to pay for the advice you need. I had a licensee fresh into business who had to use my accountant who had come in five years earlier to sort out a licensee in trouble. I was so impressed at the time that she became my accountant, and our accounting standards went up considerably from there. Anyway, this new licensee complained about the expense of using her. It wasn’t her expensive rates. Not at all... they just didn’t want to pay for
