LE QUARTIER DES GASSE TS, DISNEY VAL D’EUROPE, FRANCE
Our aim in this exercise has been to give examples of characterisation to selected urban blocks and public open spaces of the masterplan. We have selected to show six thematic narratives of urban characterisation:-
1. Canals & Silos 2. Waterfront Exedras 3. Narrow Lanes 4. The Docks des Gassets 5. The Long Urban Park 6. Sunken Arrivals
The suggestion here is that Le Quartier des Gassets must not be a grand narrative similar to those of the 19th century. Instead, it must be the filmic repetition that remembers (and by remembering interprets, modifies and varies) urban industrial themes, past and present, while re-assembling them. The urban narratives we show attain an unbounded and open condition. They depart from conventional optical vision and discover local kinds of specialisation, which have multiple entries/exits rather than a privileged single point of view. Ultimately, they operate as thematic ‘mood’ boards.
