LAW SCHOOL, BAY CAMPUS, SWANSEA UNIVERSITY, WALES, UK,
The Law School’s design supports the vision of the masterplan and provides a new strong academic build- ing at the heart of the campus. The building is fully inte- grated into the environment and in the context of the emerging urban fabric. It will contain a range of flexible teaching, research and collaboration spaces, enhanc- ing provision for other disciplines on the Bay Campus.
The Law School is at the core of the Bay Campus adjacent to the Great Hall with unique southerly views over Swansea Bay. Our design reference has been Peripatetic Lyceum, Aristotle’s school of philosophy. An arcade defines a Garden Courtyard around the Lec- ture Theatre, Library, Graduate Centre, Legal/Justice Centre and Moot Court. The Garden Courtyard, the Law School’s defining feature, has large trees and plant beds of pomegranate, rosemary, lavender and thyme. The heart of the Lyceum of Law becomes an oasis of calm, a setting for reflection and a place for learning and action.
