VILLA KENEDY HOTEL, FRANKFURT AM MAIN, GERMANY
We have aimed to design the new hotel sympathetic to the Villa Speyer and the tradition of villa-architecture so characteristic of Kennedyallee. Human proportions, tradi- tional materials like plaster, stone and timber, specific detailing, have guided our design approach. The court around which the new hotel unfolds, the collonaded cloister, the turrets, the massing and roofscape give the new hotel a distinct humanist character and a sense of place.
The new hotel around the Villa Speyer provides 165 guest rooms (including 27 suites) plus bars, restaurants, conference and banqueting facilities and health centres. In line with planning prescriptions, the historic building’s identity had to be protected and new additions restricted in height and bulk. Our scheme restores the existing villa as the hotel’s front door, with reception areas and lounges. Most guest rooms and other facilities are housed in a “family” of new buildings, each structurally independent, arranged around a central court. The style of these buildings is based on a close study of neighbouring villas. A continuous arcade connects the blocks at ground level. Externally, they are clad in a render with stone dressings.
In this project, the architecture is part of a formula for creating a distinctive and memo- rable building with a strong character and sense of place.
The Hotel on Kennedyallee is a unique destination in Frankfurt, combining the ultimate in luxury and taste.
