The Story of My Grandmother
My grandma is very sweet, caring, and codependent, she puts other people before herself and is very kind to everyone around her. I chose her because she has been with me a lot in life and has been very kind to me. She is also the last grandparent that I have in Washington and I hope she’s around for much, much longer.
My grandma’s full name is Sandra Jacobson, she was born in Ellensburg, Washington. Her best childhood memory was going to the Rose Bowl with her family. She liked the Rose Bowl because she got to hang out at the hotel and swim, also she got to go to the parade and hang out with family. When she was little she was very shy and quiet. She was the Berry Dairy Days princess one year. She lived on a farm and rode horses. She worked on a farm picking strawberries before she was old enough to get a real job. She always looked up to her aunt, Emma because she was the first female mayor of La Conner. She always wanted to be an airline stuartist but never did it.
When she was finally an adult she got a job out of high school as a telephone operator for two to three years then got different jobs with the telephone company. She worked 30 years for the telephone company. She worked 5 different jobs at the company and her last job was customer care technician and she liked it because she got to talk to people a lot. My grandma had three children, two boys, one girl. She named them Crystal who is my mom, Jeff, and Arnold. The best part of being a parent to her was loving and raising her children. The best moment she had as an adult was going on a trip to Hawaii, it was the last trip that she had before her father passed away. Her most cherished family tradition is having the whole family over on Christmas Eve.
An average day in her life now is going to breakfast/lunch with friends, hanging out with grandkids, and karaoke and dancing at the Eagles. Some of her goals in life is to travel to Ireland, go whale watching, cruise to the bahamas, and to zipline. Her daily thoughts in her mind are being healthy/fit, exercising, and taking better care of herself. She spends most of her time with her dog, Rex. Everytime she gets a new dog it is always a pomeranian. Rex is a black pomeranian but usually she gets two of them at once. She takes Rex everywhere even in the car. He is pretty much always with her. The most important thing in life to her is family, it is always the number one thing to her.
The experience that impacted her the most was helping people at the Lions Club with their sight and hearing because she liked helping people and making everyone more happy. Her one wish for the world would be that everyone united together and everyone got along, no racism or violence. She sees in the world sadness, fear, disasters but also beautiful things like snowy mountains, oceans, and blue skies. Her best piece of advice ever given to her was by one of her friends, they said “care more about yourself instead of those around you” because she cares too much about others than herself.. Her favorite quote is “laughter makes the world go round”. She likes this quote because it means that without laughter the world wouldn’t spin and wouldn’t exist. If she could give my generation one piece of advice it would be “work hard, don’t expect a free ride in life. Be proud of what you do.” One thing she now understands that she didn’t use to was being older isn’t good, when you are young you always want to be older but really it isn’t better.
I chose to interview my grandma because she is very kind to everyone around her. She has helped a lot of people in the Lions Club and has helped me a lot, mostly when I was younger. The reason I admire her the most is because of how much she cares about others around her and how nice she is. My grandma means the most to me because everyone means the most to her.
