Kindness and Compassion
“Throw Kindness around like confetti because kindness is all you need” anonymous. This quote represents my grandma Marilyn Kay Zorn in every single way. She was born in Seattle, WA on October 19, 1944, and so far has lived a fantastic 72 years and continues to live her life to the fullest. I am nominating my grandma because she has so much compassion in her heart and has inspired me to be a better person inside and out.
Her whole life is based upon making friends and loving her family. She had 3 kids that she loves to death and 5 grandkids that she also loves deeply. She has always known that she was destined to be a teacher because she loved kids so dearly. Teaching was exactly what she did for 26 years. She has always had a passion for tennis, hiking, and traveling with her husband Donald Zorn. She's an open minded person that likes all foods from fish to asparagus most especially the chocolatey taste of peanut M&M’S.
Working as a teacher for 26 years has definitely inspired many kids and made her someone to look up to. She has always helped me with reading and through problems. She has inspired me just as much as her Aunt Joyce inspired her with her smile and living on the edge personality.
Her strong faith has gotten her through just about everything. Her strong heart has gotten everyone else through just about everything. One of her daughters has a disability in her legs. In which makes her not able to walk she dedicates her time to making her daughter’s life easier by doing laundry, cleaning the house, and when the weather is nice working outside on the house and gardening.
Everything that she has done has not been without struggle and pain. 3 years ago she was diagnoised with skin cancer in a yearly check up with her doctor. This came as a shock to her and her family but with luck, they caught it early on and was able to remove it. This inspires me because even though she was told she had cancer she continued to persevere and find a solution.
She has inspired the community by supporting my grandpa when he was the assistant principal for many years and the principal at West View for many years too. She always stuck by his side with every job pursuit he wanted to do. When he got the opportunity to go on german exchange for a principal job he brought along his family she supported it 100%. The people in this community respected that. She is also apart of making meals at the friendship house and volunteering at church.
My grandma had tons of advice for our generation which I think is very useful because my grandma is an intelligent woman with lots of advice to give. One thing she would tell us is to live in the moment what she means by this is sometimes get off our screens and just enjoy the moment what happens online doesn't really matter. Also, something that is super important to her is loving yourself and not judging yourself based on what other people look like and what the “ideal” is. She does not judge you based upon your appearance she judges you based on your heart and your soul. This is another reason why I look up to my grandma so much because she does not judge she always says “never judge someone before you get a chance to know them” Overall my grandma is a well-respected woman with a huge heart.
