P. 3

Foreword
We all live our own story...but this is about a bigger story.
When young and old come together, they can change each other's lives, their community, and even the world. Big things happen when you listen to a life – you travel time, learning from the past for a better future.
This project was adapted from the LegacyProject.org. Through this project, our goal is to bring together past, present, and future or, in other words, memories, opportunities, and dreams. For young, old, and everyone in between. Through writing we will explore connection and meaning across Time... that’s the true meaning of legacy... an interconnection across time, with a need to honor those who have come before us and a responsibility to those who come after us.
Our challenge is to capture a life story in all its richness for a connection across time.
Why are life stories important? Talking about our lives is how we learn more about ourselves, others, the world, and life. Doing a life interview is a chance to travel through time. In the present moment, the best gift you can give someone is to listen to them. You'll find out about the past as you hear about real-life experiences. And along the way, you will discover some timeless insights to help guide you through your own future.
Why write biographies? Through our Legacy of Words unit, we learned that writing preserves experiences for future generations. In our biographies, we used all that we understand about powerful language to honor the people that have impacted our lives and to preserve their legacy for future generations through our writing.
Please enjoy this collection of biographies written by the Bay View 8th grade class of 2017.
