Unconditional love
Darcy Wells was born in Seattle, Washington on May 20, 1944. She was named after the book Pride and Prejudice written by Jane Austen. She is one of my most influential people in the world. When she was born her
father was overseas in the South Pacific on a navy ship fighting in WW2. When she grew up she wanted to be a rootin tootin cowboy. Darcy, along with all children around that age was always doing mischievous things. This one time she climbed up on the roof but it ended badly when she slipped and got a bum full of slivers. The one that really got her in trouble though, was when she and her friend snuck across the way into the neighbors garden and uprooted all his precious potatoes. Dutch (Darcy’s father) was someone she always looked up to. Dutch is to this day shared through stories as being one of the most creative and loving people known to man.
When Darcy grew up her dreams of being a cowboy slowly faded as she soon took on the profession of importing baskets from China. Darcy said, “being a woman in the 1970’s was hard enough but to travel across the
world to China as an entrepreneur was outstanding.” She never thought that was the career she would join. She said it was the best thing that ever happened to her, well the second best thing. She soon had a son and then a daughter. The son's name is Steve and the daughter's name Stacy. When Steve was a young child, Darcy and Steve were at the Red Apple buying groceries. Darcy was paying for the groceries when one of the clerks stated that there was a little boy peeing off the curb. There he was, my father, taking a stand for whatever reason with his pants down, just peeing. Darcy now has six grandchildren (including myself). Every year the whole family meets up at Priest Lake in Idaho to have the times of our life among friends and family. She said that’s the best thing that has ever happened to her.
Darcy Wells has always believed in being positive and loving unconditionally. Around 2010, Grandpa Steve was diagnosed with the terrifying disease Alzheimers. Darcy took care of him for five whole years. In that time his
disease became worse and evolved into Lewy body disease which is Alzheimers, Parkinsons, and hallucinations. My grandma took care of the one she loved for five years even though he was struggling with this horrible disease. Steven Wells’s disease kept getting worse and eventually had to be placed into a home. He was in the home for three weeks when he fell. He was in a coma and died 11 days later. Family and close friends were at Darcy’s 24/7 making sure she had someone to be with her. March 30, 2016, Darcy had had pain in her chest for a while so her and her son Steve went to the doctor to see what going on. The doctor had bad news. March 30, 2016, Darcy Wells was diagnosed with breast cancer. The doctor’s said, “you’re mine for nine months, clear your schedule.” Darcy had plans to go on her yearly trip to Mexico and even a trip to Egypt. The doctor said her chances were very small, the cancer was too bad and the therapy to hard on her body to let her go on these adventures. 9 months of running poisons through her body to clear her of cancer. She lost her hair, she was angry. But she made it through it. After 9 months of chemo and having both breasts removed the doctor said, “It’s still very possible you won't go on your trip. “Oh, no way Jose”, said Darcy.” A plane leaves for Mexico in 2 weeks, and I'm going to be on it.”
Today, Darcy enjoys spending her time with friends and family, watching grandkids sports, attending church gatherings, having lunch with old and new friends. When her hair started growing back it wasn't all white anymore,
she was getting her natural color back. She was ecstatic. I look up to Darcy Wells because she is one of the strongest friends I have.
