The legacy of Vernon Honey
This is Vernon Honey. He is 72 1⁄2 years old and very proud of the half. He’s a great person and a really funny
one also. But Vernon is more than great. He’s done a lot of work in his life and still continuing with it currently. He lives in a great environment in Tennessee where he can concentrate on his music. I am nominating him because he is someone special to me. He’s very funny and is fun to talk to. He is also very important to me because he raised my mom who then raised me making our family 100,000x more awesome.
During his childhood he spent most of his time in Ontario Oregon. While Vernon was a child he did lots of fishing and spent time living in a tent. After that he moved to Idaho. This is where he spent three years. Some of his goals or dreams that he had as a child was to be a country star.
After his fun sounding childhood he went through high school where he decided on what he wanted to do with his life. Under his senior picture was a quote he said that said “I plan on continuing until i’m satisfied.”Though he didn’t make it to be the best country star there was, he went through a lot of different jobs. These jobs being a mattress maker, door to door magazine seller, ditch digger, and an electronic engineer. He also had multiple kids, seven to be exact. Some embarrassing/funny things that he remembered was when he was teaching his daughter Brenda to drive. But she had to drive in reverse through parking bumpers in an empty parking lot. While driving backwards she drove over the parking bumpers and tore off the mud flaps on his car. Some things he said about what the best part of being a parent was, “Enjoying what you get out of their kids and grand kids, laughing at their mistakes, knowing that they are in charge but not really, it brings joy.” One thing he said about experiences that he had that impacted his life was “Being divorced twice. I learned that life can be really tough and that the best relationship is with god.”
To his days now, he usually wakes up at 7:30 and makes breakfast, then he goes into his studio to record music for his country career and hoping to make millions on a single, then goes back inside to think of more song lyrics, then trying to win a game of chess against a computer and going to bible studies on other days. With a single wish for the world he said “I would wish that everybody would get to know god. Because their heart has to change, then there wouldn’t be any more war, no more tears, and no more fear. Everyone would be happy.” Then when I asked what he thinks about on a daily basis he just said “Usually words for songs. Usually it sounds like this. Well I can’t say that because I already did.” With his environment that he lives in he can hear birds singing, chickens, and dogs. But at night he can hear frogs and crickets. And sometimes during the day he can hear a truck that carries logs and helicopters. When asked for the best piece of advice that was given to him he said “ Well it was from my pastor and he just said, Make sure you find god.” On that he went to saying that “ without God, family, and love in life, life would be a little dull.” He also gave advice of his own to the next generation of kids saying “Stand steadfast. When you know if it’s wrong, if you get hurt or someone else gets hurt verbally or physically don’t do it.” He also mentioned the boy scouts oath.
I learned a lot about my grandpa. I learned lots about his childhood, his adulthood, and his present life. He is such a great person to talk to, this is why I picked to honor him. He has given me spectacular pieces of advice that will be passed on to this generation and to the next generation.
