Positivity
One might think March 18, 1947 was just another day, but this was actually the day, Susan Herlickson was born. Susan Herlickson is the person of honor in this biography. As mentioned earlier, she was born on March 18, 1947 in a rather small town of Albert Lea, Minnesota. Susan is a very interesting person, she’s just so cheerful all the time! Her mother loved actors, Susan Herlickson was actually named after one of her mother’s favorite actors, Susan Hayward. Her middle name was inspired too, it was deemed Jean, from her aunt.
As a child she was a very shy little girl who moved around a lot, 7 different school districts to be exact. She never really knew why though. Even so, she always looked up to her mom, for her strong and hard working personality. She admired her very much. She did a lot of wacky things when she was a child, one such example would be when she was 3 years old. She and a bunch of other kids were running up a very large and steep hill, until her dad pulled her away because there was a rattlesnake right in front of her! She told it very casually, as though it wasn’t so frightening. Grandma Susan was very good at keeping a situation not to somber, irritable or eerie. She always kept life on the highest note possible on her electric keyboard. That positivity helped her become a nurse. She always wanted to become a nurse. Even as a little child. She always wanted to help others.
As an adult, she was inspired by her children to get into college and get her degree as a Nurse. When she had her first child, she realized that she needed a job to keep the family up and running. So she went to college, studied for 7 years, and finally graduated. She always enjoyed nursing. For her, there was a cordial feeling for taking care for her patients. Even now she continues to work volunteer hours. She always did an excellent job at her work, whether it was outside working with the plants or cooking something delicious in the kitchen. Speaking of cooking, when she and her family were at a restaurant for breakfast, her son Tim looked upon a bald man at another table. He tugged at Grandma's shirt and said “Hey look! A bare man!”. Grandma Susan was completely baffled. She thought he meant “Hey, look! A bear man!”. Today she laughs at that moment from time to time. She always loved her children, she enjoyed watching them grow and seeing who they became.
Today, She’s really laid back. She has her coffee, she goes on her walk, she volunteers for nursing, watches a movie and continues the rest of her day with whatever’s going on. She accomplished everything she wanted in life. Though, Susan did have one wish. She wants to become more close to her grandchildren, Kaleb and Anneke. She also thinks a lot about her deceased Husband, Gary. To keep herself occupied, she thinks about what she’s going to do for the day. In Arizona, She hears the singing birds, and the wind chimes hanging off her roof. She sees Palm trees in her backyard, mountains in the distance, and the burning hot sun overhead. One quote she remembers today, and continues to hold dear to her, is “Be happy” from her dad. She goes to on to explain that being happy gets you through everything life throws your way. Her father is 100% right. She tells of another quote that got her through life was “Just Breath”.
Today, Grandma Susan has always been amazing. She’s always been resourceful. She never wasted any amount of money on her. She always thought what would happen in her day. She was always a people pleaser, she would do just about anything for her entire family. She was extremely obliging. Grandma Susan was a joy to be around, like so many other people, but grandma Susan is special in the way that she’s really active, entertaining and respectful to everyone she knows. Grandma Susan is certainly a person of honor to remember.
