American Association of Naturopathic Medical Colleges (AANMC) established and incorporated; founding president of this phase, Paul Mittman, ND (SCNM) until 2004. Presidents include Bob Bernhardt, PhD (CCNM) 2005-2009; Guru Sandesh Singh Khalsa, ND (UBCNM) 2010-2014; Jane Guiltinan, ND (Bastyr) 2014-2016; Melanie Henriksen, ND (NUNM) 2016-2017; Fraser Smith, ND (NUHS) 2017 to present. Early staff Karen Howard (Executive Director), Coquina Deger (Marketing Director).
Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine (BINM) established. Founding governing board: Bruce Chambers, Geri Martin, Cameron McIntyre, ND candidate, Neil McKinney, ND, Kevin Nolan, MD, ND, Cidalia Paiva, PhD, David Scotten, ND (Dean), David Wang, ND, and Patricia Wolfe, ND. Dr. Wolfe becomes founding president.

Oregon Collaborative for Complementary and Integrative Medicine (OCCIM) established. Becomes Oregon Center for Integrative Medicine (OCIM); develops from early NCCAM, funds inter- institutional collaboration. XXX
SCNM and Gaia Herbs receive $2M NIH NCCAM SBIR grant to study Echinacea species. The grant identified new active plant constituents, delineated the immunological role of alkamides, and yielded six peer-reviewed publications.
SCNM President Paul Mittman, ND, Peter D’Adamo, ND, Martha D’Adamo, and Laura Mittman, ND, establish Institute for Human Individuality (IfHI) at SCNM with mission to foster research and education in clinical informatics, nutrigenomics, and epigenetics. XXX

King County 2010 Initiative (WA) co-chaired by King County Council members Maggie Fimia and Kent Pullen; 2010 initiative launched to integrate natural medicine with key role played by Bastyr University in the Puget Sound area.
