LICENSURE, EXAMINATIONS, REGULATORY, AND LICENSING BOARDS
Maryland becomes the 17th state (along with Washington, DC, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands) to license or register naturopathic doctors. Led by Emily Telfair, ND, President, Stephany Porter, ND, and others with Maryland Naturopathic Doctors Association.
NPLEX develops the Elective Pharmacology Examination to reflect the expanded drug prescribing rights in many jurisdictions.
Pennsylvania establishes Registration of Naturopathic Doctors (HB516) through the efforts of the Pennsylvania Association of Naturopathic Physicians; President Marie Winters, ND, and legislative committee chair Heidi Weinhold, ND.
ACCREDITATION
CCNM receives long sought degree-granting status. Graduates of a naturopathic program in Canada receive a Doctor of Naturopathy degree for the first time in Canadian history. The degree is awarded under the authority of the Minister
of Advanced Education and Skills Development in the province of Ontario. Gaining this approval required over 12 years of work educating officials in education and health on the strength of the ND curriculum. Prior to this point, only a diploma was provided. XXX
Universidad Del Turabo, Puerto Rico, receives accreditation status from the CNME.

INM founds Residency Academic Consortium (RAC). Secures funding for INM Residency Project for 10 residency sites in Seattle area. Led by M. Simon, G. Garcia, J. Rentz, M. Henriksen, N. Shiffler, M. Prenguber, and J. Guiltinan.
National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) formed, as the College of Naturopathic Medicine returns to its original name (from intermediate “National College of Natural Medicine”). NUNM launches its first two undergraduate programs within its new School of Undergraduate Studies. NUNM formally establishes the School of Graduate Studies with five new Master’s programs (integrative research, global health, integrative mental health, and nutrition).
