Saltwater Country is a multifaceted Aboriginal lead organisation that builds on the symbolic power of the cowboy in remote Australia. A position of strength, where the freedom of the cowboy became the freedom of Aboriginal people and our communities to find our own way. To this day Aboriginal people maintain a living and working connection to the pastoral & rodeo ways of life whilst maintaining connection to country and culture. It is through our collective experience that we understand the pastoral and rodeo history of the area, how being on country doing something you love can anchor an individual whilst also providing a culturally appropriate and necessary response to many of the issues plaSguUingRtheVcoEmYmunCityOanMd crePatEingTpaIthTwaIyOs inNto industry.
More than just another rodeo
We are committed to a collaborative & innovate approach that will enable Broome people of all ages and cultural backgrounds to develop opportunities and expand the ways they contribute to the community.
In addition to building our event Rhythm & Ride: Rodeo, Campdraft and Country Music and ensuring local Aboriginal people have the opportunity to compete, train or work at the event we are also developing the opportunity for Rodeo & Riding clinics and an Equine Assisted Learning programme (including equine therapy and training trainers) in partnership with Professor Juli Coffin; whilst working towards a purpose-built Rodeo & Riding School, Equine & Cultural Tourism, Unique Kimberley Food, Pastoral Industry pathways and Rehabilitated Brumby Sales. These initiatives will build on the employment and training we have already provided through our event. We have a high level of professional skill mixed with real life experience that enables us to design and deliver such programmes and achieve measurable outcomes for the benefit of individuals and the community at large.
