P. 2

welcome
Dear students, teachers, counselors, and parents:
On behalf of Alexandria Technical and Community College’s (ATCC) amazing information technology team, we ask that you consider our nation’s desperate need for skilled individuals to counter an ever-growing cyber threat. Cybersecurity is one of the fastest growing profes- sional fields offering tremendous employment opportunities. In 2020, there were an estimated 465,000 jobs available — these numbers continue to grow today.
Computer Networking and Cybersecurity are no doubt challenging career fields. However, with hard work comes rewards! Information technology is extremely exciting, has a wide variety
of different responsibilities and work roles, and endless opportunities for promotion, both in the public and private sectors. The pay is extremely good with entry-level wages for two-year graduates averaging $63,000 per year.
ATCC’s Cybersecurity, Virtualization & Networking program offers high-demand, high-skill and high-wage opportunities. Our faculty are nationally recognized and our facilities and infrastruc- ture are cutting edge. We are committed to providing a high-quality education and enhanced student life experiences for our students. This includes second-to-none support services and multiple opportunities to participate in activities, including a Gamers Club and an E-Sports Team. ATCC has the only NJCAA E-Sports team in the state of Minnesota competing against colleges and universities across the country. Our 2021 class captured first place in the Min- nesota Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC). Businesses and individuals recognize
our commitment to quality and the need for more cyber professionals providing scholarships, internships and mentoring. Our graduates have the option of going directly into the workforce or transferring to several four-year institutions.
This guidebook will hopefully inspire you to consider careers in information technology at Minnesota’s number one ranked college (https://www.alextech.edu/about-atcc/recognition), Alexandria Technical and Community College.
