Having technology instruction in our classrooms is as important as teaching mathematics, reading, and writing. Our students and their families understand
this, and our legislators grasp its significance for the future of North Dakota and
its young people. North Dakota has been able to pass groundbreaking legislation thorough collaboration among our lawmakers and education stakeholders, which integrates instruction in computer science and cybersecurity in our schools in
grades kindergarten through 12. This legislation is critical to ensuring our students are prepared for a future in which almost every job, almost every task, will require familiarity with technology, both how to use it and how to safeguard ourselves against potential abuse from it. As always, I want to thank the educators for taking time to acquire new skills and the students for their curiosity and eagerness to learn.

Technology is ubiquitous in our everyday lives and transforming how we live and work. No matter the job or profession, technology is not only disrupting but
also creating new ways which are not yet fully conceived or thought through. Our physical and digital lives are becoming ever more connected, requiring us to be ever more vigilant and secure in the digital world.
We are the first state in the country to lead the way with computer science and
cybersecurity as two mandatory skill requirements through our PK-20W initiative.
We believe exposing young generations early to the field of technology is essential
to building a strong talent pipeline for North Dakota's future success. It is my
