Considerations for Choosing Splice-On Connectors
► Unlike splice-on pigtails that can be cut and re-spliced, splice-on connectors cannot be reterminated
► Connectors are typically 250μm or 900μm, but can’t be used for transitioning from one to the other
► Ideal for singlemode fiber applications
– Multimode can be more difficult to align due to graded index profile and
larger cores, especially when using different vendors’ glass
► Expensive for anyone who seldom splices and doesn’t own a splice machine
► Time consuming – not ideal for ultra high density deployments unless using mass fusion splicing with MPO/MTP solutions
