Academic Background
Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona in 1988, he obtained a Ph.D. in 1996 from the University of Barcelona. After the thesis made a stay of four years (1996-1999) as a Visiting Scientist at the Laboratory of Hepatitis National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH, Bethesda, USA), where he worked under the direction of Dr RH Purcell.
Present Professional Position
Consultant in Hepatology and Medical Director of the Hepatitis Functional Unit, Department of Hepatology. Hospital Clinic in Barcelona.
Previous Scientific or Professional Activities
After joining as a Specialist in the Department of Hepatology began his line of research in the field of hepatitis
C and liver transplantation. Dr Forns has participated in numerous competitive research projects and has authored more than 140 publications in international journals between including Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Lancet, Gut and J.Hepatology. Has participated in developing clinical guidelines for the management of hepatitis B and C of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL). He has also been a member of the Governing Board of the Association (2005-2008) and recently Secretary of the Spanish Association of Liver Diseases (AEEH, 2011-2013).
Other Merits, Achievements or Comments
Dr Forns directs the viral hepatitis group i IDIBAPS researchers working CIBERehd where pre and post-doctoral students from various countries in exchange programs, in recent years has supervised 6 doctoral theses.
