Welcome to Issue 18 of Christians United for Israel UK’s Torch
magazine.
In this issue we focus on looking back and remembering. Whilst our world seems bent
on “focusing on the future, forgetting the past and moving on” there is much to be gained by retrospect. In looking back we can see the many blessings of God in our lives and that
of our nation’s. It is only as
we consider the goodness of God in our past and present that we have confidence in His faithfulness for the future. Israel acts as a constant reminder of the faithfulness of God towards His people and His Land. If we have any spiritual revelation then this story is revealed
on almost every page of our Bibles, throughout the history books and even in our daily newspapers and media; Israel
is never far away. Israel remains the apple of His eye and we
do well to pray for the peace
Des Starritt
of Jerusalem and consider how we can support Israel and the Jewish people. Looking back reminds us that it’s best to focus our present and our future on doing those things which matter to God.
Among the articles in this issue, we discover the writings of the newly discovered Dead Sea Scroll fragments. We remember Prince Philip and his connection with the Land. We celebrate 10 years since the creation of the ground- breaking Iron Dome defence system. It is also a decade since the Japanese tsunami, which we mark by sharing the moving way in which Israel helped. Meanwhile closer to home, our article about Marks and Spencer may surprise
you to learn how M&S played a significant role in Britain’s support for the establishment of the State of Israel.
We hope you enjoy the magazine and feel led to share with others.
