What was the Balfour Declaration?
The Balfour Declaration, published on 2 November 1917, was a letter addressed by Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour to the Zionist Federation that proclaimed Britain would support the establishment of “a national home for the Jewish people”. This declaration paved the way for Israel to be reborn as a nation.
HOW YOU ARE MAKING MPS TAKE NOTE OF SUPPORT FOR ISRAEL
In the last few months we have been working in partnership with the Israel Britain Alliance (IBA) to lobby MPs on issues relating to Israel.
Contacting our MPs is important because most politicians measure the public mood based on their inbox. If they see
wording from the emails you sent in their remarks. One MP, who is known for being very anti-Israel, was much more reserved in his remarks than usual. We know from records that he was contacted a number of times by his pro-Israel constituents. And another MP actually referred to having received 20 emails on the issue.
We want to thank all of you that have contacted your MP regarding this debate and previous campaigns. Please know that your emails are really making a di erence. Together with our partners, we are sending more pro-Israel emails to MPs than ever before, and we hope this will increase.
To keep up to date with the latest campaigns, please visit www.cufi.org.uk/action. Also, if you provide us with your email address we will email you every time a new campaign is launched so you will never miss an opportunity to lobby your MP on Israel.
Just a few minutes of your time can make a big di erence in Parliament and have a long lasting impact for Israel.

The most recent opportunity to mobilise our MPs was over a debate on the Centenary of the Balfour Declaration, which took place on 16 November in Parliament.
The results of our email campaign to MPs is evident. Hundreds of CUFI supporters contacted their own MPs
in just over a week specifically about the Balfour debate with recommendations on what to raise from a pro-Israel perspective. How did MPs respond? The vast majority
of MPs that attended gave supportive recognition to
the Balfour Declaration, as well as Israel and the UK’s relationship with Israel. A couple of MPs even used
