Jonathan Jernigan is the oldest of Mike and Jennifer Jernigan’s three children and has been homeschooled since he was in second grade. Jonathan was very involved in Boy Scouts over
the course of his school years and was recognized by his Scout leaders as a great mentor for younger troop members. Jonathan held a variety of leadership positions and became an Eagle Scout in November of 2015. Jonathan has been the Games Director for our chapel AWANA program at Fort Campbell this year after being an assistant for two years. Jonathan loves
music and has taught himself how to play the bass guitar and the harmonica. Jonathan played indoor and outdoor soccer for ten years and was the captain of his team for two years. Having also become a soccer referee, he intends to work as a referee for and play intramural soccer while he is in college. Jonathan has always excelled at and enjoyed math and science, so it came as no surprise to learn that he was interested in studying engineering. His decision was solidified after attending the Seminar for Top Engineering Prospects at Purdue University in August of 2017. Through his involvement with his youth group, Jonathan was able to participate in two mission trips to Cambodia, during which he and other students built a medical clinic and water treatment facility for a village and also conducted a vacation Bible school for the village children. These trips were the starting point of a desire to commit his life to serving those who are often overlooked and left behind by the rest of the world. Jonathan has decided to pursue a degree in Construction Engineering and Management at Purdue University with an end goal of using his skills in service to the Lord and his fellow
man as a missionary who not only shares the gospel, but also meets the physical needs of those in developing nations through building much needed infrastructure and public works projects.
