Information given to families is expected to be in accordance with HLA’s policies, vision, and mission statement. Counselors should be able to demonstrate both the ministry and business aspects of HLA. Counselors should take the time to help homeschooling families feel more confident about homeschooling and help determine if homeschooling is a good fit when needed. This involves asking lots of questions to determine the best direction when advising families. Families should feel like HLA cares even if we don't give them the answers they want or expect.
When situations arise that do not fit standard policy, please check with your team leader or the Administrator before proceeding. This will help ensure consistency. All new or returning students will go through an approval process to ensure the student is a good fit for HLA’s program.
Counselors are expected to ask for assistance, as needed, from other counselors in order to better serve families. Each counselor has strengths and weaknesses and specific areas of expertise will be listed on the website and in Pingboard accordingly. Families need to be directed to the person that can best serve their needs. Calls and emails should be returned in a timely manner (within 24 business hours when possible). All counselors are required to have high-speed internet connectivity.
