  New Climate Goals Announced!
This year Johnson and Johnson announced ambitious new climate action targets. These challenging targets go beyond the existing science-based targets and demonstrate J&Js commitment to climate action. The Targets are:
• By 2025, source 100% of our electricity needs from renewable sources
• By 2030, achieve carbon neutrality for our operations
• By 2030, reduce absolute upstream Scope 3 emissions by 20% from 2016 levels
Certification to New ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management Standard
This year we completed our first remote audit to the ISO 50001 energy management standard. Along with our Campus Ireland colleagues in Janssen Sciences, Janssen Pharmaceutical Sciences and Vision Care we successfully transitioned to the new 2018 version of the standard. The audit took place
over a three-day period in June.
A big thank you to all those who supported the audit, including the Site Leadership Team for their continued commitment to energy management and providing the necessary resources to improve the Site’s Energy Performance.
“Our successful transition to the new energy management standard highlights the site’s commitment to the continual improvement of our energy performance and the reduction of the carbon intensity of our operations.”
- Colm Hynes Plant Manager
     Site Energy Management
At DePuy Synthes we use a significant amount of energy,
so it is import we take measures to reduce our energy usage and carbon intensity of our operations. To do this
we employed a 4-year 2017-2020 energy management strategy, which was implemented using a three-pillar approach. Strong commitment to continual improvement by the site has been the foundation of this strategy resulting in over 8GWh of energy savings, enough to power over 1900 homes for a year.
 Energy Efficiency Projects 2020
A wall of EC Fans replaces old belt driven system
As part of the site’s commitment to increasing energy efficiency, the team completed an upgrade project on their Air Handling Units (AHU) by installing energy efficient EC fans. The new direct drive system will reduce losses by eliminating the use of a belt and replace it by operating on a single shaft between motor and fan. Additionally, there will be multiple fans making this a “fan wall” type AHU. A single fan in the old system is to be replaced with 7 fans in the supply side and 4 fans in the return which will improve availability of the fans. i.e. If one fan fails, the remaining fans can speed up to meet the requirements of the system.
Solar Photovoltaic
November marked the one-year anniversary of the sites Solar PV installation. In that time, it has generated more than 210,000kWh of clean electricity this is equivalent to the electricity of 50 homes for a year.
