On April 11, at 03:13 hours, Officer Diaz was on patrol when he re- sponded to a shots fired call over the zone. Offi- cer Diaz arrived at 660 W. Wrightwood Ave. and observed a male robbery victim who had been shot twice by the offend- er. Officer Diaz assessed the victim’s injuries, both bullet wounds in the upper right leg, with one fracturing the femur,

On April 19, Officers Ruiz and Sanchez re- sponded to a call of shots fired in the location of 95th and Loomis. Mul- tiple callers related that they heard up to 50 gun- shots and believed them to be from a high-caliber rifle. The officers toured the area for victims and offenders, at which time a call for a person shot at 1304 W. 97th Place came over the zone. The offi- cers arrived on scene and
causing heavy blood loss. Officer Diaz utilized his LEMART training and applied a tourniquet, stopping the excessive blood flow. EMS finally arrived on scene and transported the victim to the hospital.
At the time of this award ceremony, the grateful victim still had not been contacted by the RBT detective assigned to his case. All RBT detectives are currently being detailed to a street corner somewhere in the hope of stopping the uptick in the decrease of the increase in violent crime.

heard the victim’s screams, mainly for “Jesus and Mama,” ema- nating from inside the residence. Once inside, the officers located the male victim with one gunshot wound through his left arm and two gunshot wounds through his left leg. The officers immediate- ly began utilizing first aid and applied a tourniquet to stop the heavy arterial blood flow from the victim’s leg. EMS finally arrived on scene and the victim was transported to Christ Hospital. The victim was rushed into surgery, and the doctors cited the efforts of the officers as contributing factors in saving the victim’s life.
It is with great appreciation that Chicago Lodge 7 presents Officers Ruiz and Sanchez with the Life Saving Award.
