Department’s change in the tattoo policy was inconsistent to one’s being hired. These officers also shared the problems associated with wearing long- sleeve shirts and neckties during the sweltering heat of Chicago’s summer months. Finally, First Vice-President Ray Casiano entered the process and tapped into his 13 years of expertise as a firearms instructor and added safety concerns to the argument when a firearm user is required to wear hand and finger bandages.

The strength of our members’ testi- mony, along with the assistance of National President Canterbury’s supply- ing the Lodge with similar arbitration awards at other FOP Lodges, and the expertise of our labor attorneys over- whelmingly convinced Arbitrator Jaca- lyn J. Zimmerman that the Department did in fact violate the Contract when it
y changed its long-standing tattoo policy
The actual language of the award reads “The appropriate remedy is for the Department to rescind the [tattoo] revi- sions and restore the prior [tattoo] poli- cy, rescind and make the employees whole for their demonstrable [expenses] losses resulting from compliance with
the revisions.”
We would be remiss if we did not
thank these individual officers who came to the Lodge for case preparation participated in several interviews and testified...and did so all on their own time. The selfless action demonstrated by these members is the true definition of the Fraternalism in the Fraterna Order of Police. The action and stance taken by these few benefited all, and on behalf of all tattooed officers of the Chicago Police Department [no matter the rank]...Thank You. (For more of the details on how Chicago Lodge 7 won this arbitration, see story on page 27.) New Superintendent
y
As everyone knows by now, Mayor Emmanuel rejected the three finalists that were put forward for consideration to be the next Superintendent and announced that 27-year veteran Eddie Johnson will fill the position. At the same time we con- gratulate Superintendent Johnson on his promotion, we also applaud the hard work and dedication of First Deputy John Escalante for the time he served as the Interim Superintend- ent. As much of the rank-and-file has already communicated, the Lodge is pleased that the next superintendent has come from within the Department. We look forward to meeting with Superintendent Johnson and his staff and remain con- fident that we will continue to have a productive working relationship with 35th Street.
Grand Marshall Dineen
It was a pleasure for all of us to have been able to participate
in the Northwest Side Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade that select- ed Past National President, Past Lodge President and present Parliamentarian John Dineen as the 2016 Grand Marshall. Several Lodge 7 board members, the Dineen Clan and many, many others got a tad wet in order to show our respect and thanks for a man that has served the entire FOP Membership (nationally and locally) and CPD in such a way that few ever have or ever will. John, thank you for all that you have done and all that you have accomplished for us...and Happy St. Patty’s Day.
Be Safe and God Bless the Police
