Richard Lis scholarships, honors awarded
Recipients of Richard Lis Memorial Scholar- ships were honored by President Dean C. Angelo, Sr., Treasurer John Capparelli and fellow members of Lodge 7 at a recent Lodge meeting and awards presentation.
Each year, the Lodge presents college scholar- ships to relatives of FOP Police Officers and Detec- tives in honor of Lis, late State Lodge President.
Lis, who died at age 49 in a motorcycle accident, was a 24-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department and a founder of the Illinois FOP Lodge. He worked for 22 years to gain collective bargaining rights for Illinois police officers. He served as President of the Illinois FOP, national vice-president of the FOP and former police chief of Calumet Park.
At its November meeting, 20 primary names, and five alternates, were drawn from the pool of applications the Lodge received. Scholarships are granted to children of FOP Lodge #7 members who are or will be attending a college or trade school for the first semester of the school year.
