“When I go out and tell people what this organization has done, what we’re doing and what we’re going to do in the future, people want to help,” Ahern explained. “They realize police officers and firefighters are the last line of defense. They are the ones putting their life on the line every single day.”
Chicago Lodge 7 First Vice-President Ray Casiano Jr. believes the 100 Club’s backing from the public means plenty given the current state of being a law enforcement officer.
“I always tell my membership we’re not alone,” said Ca- siano, who joined Lodge 7 President Dean Angelo, Sr. as part of the FOP contingent that attended the gala.
“We have people out there who still like us,” Casiano continued. “To step up to the plate to support a profes- sion that is right now under attack is not popular. So, to come out and continue to still support us is great – and at the level they’re doing it. You can’t say enough good things about regular people, individual citizens who get together ... and do this for the family and the officer. It truly is for the officer, for what he has done and sacrificed for the city or the county.”

ing of his involvement over the years. Jackson’s father, Chicago Police Officer Erwin Jackson, was lost in the line of duty in 1969 after a barroom fight. His wife and three children became part of the 100 Club family that day, Dar- rell Jackson explained.
