Happy 85th Birthday, Mr. President
On July 14, FOP members old and young gathered at a North Side watering hole to celebrate the 85th birthday of Lodge 7 founding father John Dineen.
Current FOP President John Catanzara (pictured here with Dineen, third from left) and many members of the Lodge 7 executive board joined the festivities to honor the man who helped start the union in January 1963. Dineen served as trea- surer from 1963 to 1972 and then began a 21-year run as presi- dent. He negotiated the first contract with the City in 1981 and subsequent agreements through 1993.
Many of the members Dineen served also gathered at Im- pact Field in Rosemont on Aug. 4 when the CPD Finest Base- ball Team played a game against alumni. Before the old-timers’ game, Dineen threw out the first pitch.
