ThirdVice President’s Report
Silent heroes
In light of recent events, the stress on Chicago Police Officers continues to grow at an outrageous pace. Now toss in the added stress of the holiday season, having to work on the holidays, missing family events or just simply missing your loved ones.
We hear it over and over: “If you need to talk to someone, just call.” I am very grateful for the count- less officers (retired and active) who give their time to help their brothers and sisters in need. Without
these “silent heroes,” the tragic results would be staggering. For all of the first responders that responded to the tragedy at Mercy Hospital, and for the entire Chicago Police Recruit class 17-2, we are here for you.
Services like the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Peer Support and even our Police Chaplains Unit can be the ears we all need. Whichever avenue you choose, whether it be one of the services listed above, your local place of worship or even your partner, there is no wrong choice. A few months ago, I listed my personal cellphone number in my article as yet another option for anyone to contact to just talk. In case you didn’t see it, that number is 773-416-2704.
Please keep all of the families affected by recent events in your thoughts and prayers. Remember, not all heroes wear capes! May each of you and your families have a very safe and happy holiday season.
