The View from the Staff
How has your view of Chicago Police Officers changed since you started working at the FOP?
My perception of police officers has not changed since work- ing here. I have always had the utmost respect for them and the hard job they do day in and day out.

Administrative Assistant/Medical
How long have you been on the job at Lodge 7?
Seven years.
What do you like most about working at the FOP?
My work at FOP has been rewarding. I enjoy helping our women and men in blue, filing medical grievances, assisting with bene- fit issues and guidance with retirement questions.
What have you learned about Chicago Police Officers?
Police officers today have a very unsafe job. Their job is to serve and protect, but no one backs our blue family, especially the fifth floor of City Hall, which has control of the Superintendent. Due to this lack of support — You’re wrong officer, the offender is right — our City is crumbling.
How has your view of Chicago Police Officers changed since you started working at the FOP?
After working 28 years for the Police Pension Fund, now at FOP, my perception of Chicago Police Officers hasn’t changed much. It’s the politicians in Chicago who are ruining the authority of our officers. It is truly sad to see our City disrespect the people who keep us safe.
Marikay Evans
Receptionist
How long have you been on the job at Lodge 7?
It will be seven years in June.
What do you like most about working at the FOP?
It sounds cliche, but it most definitely is the people. The other office staff members, the people in the store, maintenance and, of course, the elected officers, are all great to be around. It is fun to go to work with people who care about their jobs, care about others and truly want to help the officers out in the street. I was told when I started this job that officers do not usually call FOP when they are happy. They are usually calling with a concern or a problem. I believe everyone up in the office takes that into ac- count whenever an officer calls. We all try very hard to be kind, helpful, sympathetic and courteous to the many callers that we speak to every day.
What have you learned about Chicago Police Officers?
I have learned that the officers must have a thick skin. There is no way that I could handle all of the things that the officers see on a daily basis and yet continue to go back to their jobs every day. It must be difficult not to internalize every insult, accusa- tion, horrific sight, etc. that officers see and hear so often.
How has your view of Chicago Police Officers changed since you started working at the FOP?
I am going to date myself, but I thought that cops were “macho” and thought they were “cool.” Some may still be like I had first

Turn home equity into liquid assets with a cash-out refinance.
The biggest advantage of a cash-out refinance is flexibility
You can use the funds you receive from a cash-out refi any way you wish. Plus, a refi of your mortgage could give you a potentially lower interest rate, if you need to borrow money.
