On June 26, Officers Angel Gomez and Jose Torres were working 211R when they heard multiple gunshots in the area of 37th and Calumet. The officers, along with Sergeant Phil- lip Hooper, went to the area and discovered a gunshot victim. The officers immediately resorted to the department’s LEMAR training and applied pressure to the wound. EMS arrived on the scene and transported the victim, now known to be an
off-duty police officer, to the University of Chicago Hospital. Due to the quick response of these members, the officer is still with us today.
