 Reverberations of LEMART
 Chicago Police Foundation’s support is helping officers change lives – and save them

Shots fired led Officers Angel Gomez and Jose Torres and Sergeant Phillip Hooper to 37th Street and Calumet Avenue this past June where they discovered a gunshot victim who turned out to be an off-duty Chicago Police Officer. Using their Law Enforcement Medical and Rescue Training (LEMART), the officers quickly applied pressure to his wound. And saved his life.
Shots fired two weeks earlier came when Officer David Zda- nys and Sergeant William Meador were on surveillance. They discovered a male hit in the arm and a female shot in the neck. They reached into their LEMAR kit and pulled out a quick-clot bandage to curtail the flow of blood from the female’s wound. Then they used a compression bandage on the male victim. And saved their lives.
Shots fired on April 19 echoed when Officers Ashton Mc- Lean-Hall and Cristian Diaz were responding to a disturbance
on the North Side. They discovered a person in a nearby alley bleeding profusely from a leg wound. They pulled a tourni- quet from a LEMAR kit and applied it to thwart the bleeding. And saved his life.
Shots fired on Sept. 21 hit Officer Adam Wasny four times in the groin and thigh. He was part of the team searching for a violent offender who was responsible for a separate shoot-
