Through this door
The Chicago FOP continues to brainstorm ways and means to support Easterseals, and its latest endeavor will open new doors.
With a door.
That would be the car door that Lodge 7 President Kevin Graham found at the end of March. He had it painted to look a beat car door. The door will be autographed by Chicago White Sox players and put up for auction. Proceeds will be donated to the Easterseals Healthi- er Tomorrow fitness, wellness and recreation center, which is being built at its Terrance J. Hancock campus on Chicago’s near west side.
Boulevard has been fairly accommodating to our mem- bers parking in their lot. I remind you, this is their lot and not the FOP lot. Recently, we have had some problems when the lot could not accommodate some of our mem- bers for parking. Our members were verbally abusive to the security guard.
This, of course, is unacceptable, and it put us at risk for future parking in plumbers’ lot. Usually, if you ask the se- curity guards and tell them how long you’re going to be at FOP, they will make reasonable accommodations. If there is no parking available, you need to park elsewhere, either
on Randolph Street or on one of the side streets. We are trying to secure additional parking in the area and have talked with the other unions around our building. There has even been a discussion – although not serious at this point – about the possibility of relocating our headquar- ters to make sure we have appropriate parking. However, this will not be anytime soon, and we need to work to- gether along with the plumbers union to manage the sit- uation until a permanent solution can be found. I thank you in advance for your cooperation with this matter. d
