Happy, healthy, holy New Year
Last month’s FOP Magazine highlighted offi- cers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in serving the community. I’d like to add to that. Here’s a picture of Police Officers Brenna Scanlan and Gia DiVito, who gave up a Wednesday afternoon/evening last month to serve meals to folks at a community soup kitchen on the south side. Once again, even
off the clock, we see the “serve” side of “Serve and Protect.” Thank you, Bren-
vocation, even CORNER off-duty!
Drive) will be our host as Fr. Tom Mulcrone (CFD Chap- lain) and I celebrate a special police and fire Mass at 10 a.m. Please join us, in uniform if you’d like, to offer thanks and praise with our brothers and sisters in the fire service.
On Thursday, February 16, 6 – 11 p.m., the CPD Survi- vors will host their fourth annual “Phoenix Rising” event at the FOP Hall. Come check out the many resources offered to department members and support the Survi-
vors, who continue to help officers involved in critical incidents. Food, beverages, live music and fun for all. For more information, please visit www.

Another cool story:
A few months ago, Joe (one of our bicycle unit officers) sold “Thin Blue Line” bracelets, raising $900 for the families of the officers killed in Dal-
las last summer. Like our Brotherhood for the Fallen, he forwarded the funds to these most worthy recipients. He asked me to pass along this message: “To all you guys in blue—if you bought a thin blue line bracelet or just do- nated money, this is the bike cop who accepted it. I appre- ciate your donation and the fact that you all did it without question. I just mentioned the Dallas fallen officers’ fami- lies, and you took out your money. I want you all to know I collected $900, and it is now in the hands of those worthy families. We are definitely the Thin Blue Line Family who takes care of each other when needed. Thanks again. Be safe, and watch out for each other.”

en sink watching her mother wash and dry the breakfast plates, she noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair mixed in with her dark hair. Hannah looked at her mother and said, “Why have you got some white hairs, mummy?” Her mother replied, “Well darling, every time a daughter does something bad to make her mother cry or unhappy, one of her mother’s hairs turns white.”
Hannah thought about this information for a few mo- ments, then said, “Mommy, so how come all of grandma’s hairs are white?” Ha!
