tion, and they really make it fraternal.”
State Lodge 3rd Vice President Farrell confirmed that
the fraternalism keeps him coming back to the golf outing each year. But he noticed a little something extra oozing through the room this year.
“In this atmosphere today, it’s nice to get together and remember who we are and who we’re here for,” Farrell commented. “I come here every year and it’s special every year. But I would guess they need that love now. Don’t we all?”
Beyond the love, Herbert told of another reason he learned, regarding the redeeming value of the Lodge 7 golf outing. He related talking to a member who had been coming since the inaugural outing. The member said he continues to come to mingle with the younger members, and, clearly, there is an opportunity – a responsibility, ac- tually – to perpetuate the worthwhile, appreciative and fraternal aspects of the organization though events like the golf outing.
“I think today, more than ever, police officers feel the need to come together and support each other and the profession they believe in,” Herbert concluded. “They can feel like they are here amongst friends. They don’t have to worry about anything else other than having a good time with their co-workers and people who are of the same mindset.” d
