Support for Anthony’s Avengers in full force
Chicago Lodge 7 members joined another force - Anthony’s Avengers–at Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park on Nov. 8 to benefit 6-year-old Anthony Pappalas, who was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor.
The fundraiser included live entertainment and raffle prizes to raise money to cover medical bills. “Anthony’s Avengers” wore gray and orange T-shirts stamped with the Avengers “A” on the brain can- cer awareness ribbon, a tribute to Pappalas’ favorite superhero, Iron Man.
Pappalas’ mother Katy Gaskin, who is a special education teacher for Chicago Public Schools, is seeking donations and has raised $33,000 through Crowd Rise, an online site for charitable donations, to help in Anthony’s fight.
Friends and family continue to show support by hanging gray ribbons for brain cancer awareness on trees and street poles in the neighborhood and later paired them with orange ribbons — Pap- palas' favorite color.
