Lawmakers focus attention on upcoming primaries

While the governor is the favorite, this West Point graduate will give him a battle. On the Democrat- ic side, J.B. Since it is an election year, much of their attention will be on politics. The R primary election on March 20 will be
an interesting one, as there are many
open seats. In addition, there are challenges to sever-
al incumbents, including House Republican Leader Jim Durkin from the western suburbs. Other allies of ours who are facing primaries include Chicago Democrats Dan Burke and Rob Martwick.
Lawmakers are introducing new legislation, and we are monitoring all the bills to see which ones we can support and which we need to oppose.
There are a few noteworthy statewide primaries to watch. First, as you can see on TV and other media, there

In the race for attorney general, there is a wide- open field in the Democratic primary, led by State Sena- tor Kwame Raoul from Chicago and former Governor Pat Quinn. Sharon Fairley from COPA and Jesse Ruiz from the Chicago Park District are running as well, among other candidates. This is a crowded field where almost anything could happen.
February will be a busy month of committee hearings for the legislature, despite the ongoing campaign activity of the primaries. d
