“When we left, my wife said, ‘I am so glad that you got involved with this group, because you can just see the good that it does,’” Kallas exclaimed.

“Quite often, charities kind of miss the target, and in this case, we try and sup- port them with whatever equipment or support that we can,” Kallas explained. “But then the heartening part is, there are so many people that are stepping up and are going to be a part of it. We are all rising to the challenge.”
Other board members who recent- ly joined the foundation, like Debra DiMaggio, would agree with Kallas that they each want to do their part to sup- port the CPD.
As a family law attorney who grew up in a police family, DiMaggio did not hesi- tate to join the board when she was invit- ed to do so. Her father served on the Chi- cago Police Department for more than 30 years, and she knows the sacrifice of a life in blue.
