As of July 16, a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage fell to 2.98 percent, according to Freddie Mac. This is the first time rates have dropped below 3 percent since 1971, when Freddie Mac began tracking mortgage rates. It’s also the seventh time this year that the organization has reported a record low.
