ThirdVice President’s Report
A day (or two) on the Hill
On Feb. 26 and 27, I was fortunate enough to rep- resent the state of Illinois in Washington, D.C., for the National FOP Day on the Hill event. During the course of those two days, our delegation was able to meet with 14 of the 20 members of Congress from the state of Illinois to discuss the National FOP legislative agenda for 2019.
Some of the conversations we had included sup- port for the following bills:
• H.R. 141/S. 521, the Social Security Fairness Act
• H.R. 1195/S. 473, the Law Enforcement Officers Equity Act • H.R. 1154, the Public Safety Employer-Employee Coopera-
tion Act and the introduction of the Protect and Serve Act All the members that we met with were supportive of the Social Security Fairness Act, by either sponsoring or cosponsoring the bill. As this bill completes the twists and turns in its attempt to become law, it was refreshing to hear that our representatives are showing
their support. Stay safe!
