Giving more instead of giving up
Last month, I visited with PPO Eric Giovenco and his FTO, Mike Curry, in the 19th District.
In a 30-minute conversation, Eric and I
were able to get about five words in. But
we sure learned a lot...thanks, Mike! Mike’s sister, Caty, representing the St. Francis Borgia Catholic School Commu-
nity, allowed the Police Chaplains Minis-
try to participate with them in sending care packages to Chicago Police Officers who are mili-
tary reservists currently deployed overseas. The four CPD of- ficers we sent packages to are Jerry, Miguel, Brittni and Gam- leil. Please remember them and all our troops in your prayers!
Happy Easter to all who celebrate this feast! The police Mass on Easter Sunday (April 21) is moved up to 10 a.m. As always, all are welcome. More information on the police Mass can be found on our website.
The Archdiocese of Chicago is hosting a Men’s Conference on Saturday, April 27, at St. Anne Parish in Hazel Crest. It be- gins with a hot breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and closes with Mass at noon. The keynote speaker is Father Tom McCarthy, OSA, speaking on “The Restless Journey of Life.” For more informa- tion, please visit www.forum.cmcsvirtues.org.
I hope to see you at the 87th annual St. Jude March on Sun- day, May 5 at 8 a.m. at the usual spot outside the Chicago Po- lice Gold Star Families Memorial and Park.
Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12. Bring Mom to the police Mass that morning (note the change in Mass time to 10 a.m.). It’s held at the usual location: Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, 1140 W. Jackson Blvd. More information is available on our website. If your mom is no longer with us, feel free to email or call me with her name, and we’ll remember her in our prayers for the deceased that day.
The Chaplains Section is hosting a marriage workshop for

Why is a car’s windshield so large and the rearview mirror so small? Because our past is not as important as our future. So, look ahead and move on.
Friendship is like a book. It takes a few seconds to burn, but it takes years to write.
All things in life are temporary. If they are going well, enjoy them, they will not last forever. If they are going wrong, don’t worry; they can’t last long, either.
Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, G-d smiles from above and says, “Relax, sweetheart; it’s just a bend, not the end!”
When G-d solves your problems, you have faith in His abil- ities; when G-d doesn’t solve your problems, He has faith in your abilities.

A blind person asked G-d: “Can there be anything worse than losing one’s eyesight?” He replied: “Yes, losing your vi- sions!”
When you pray for others, G-d listens to you and blesses them. Sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you.
Worrying does not take away tomorrow’s troubles; it takes away today’s peace.
Never let a day go by without having a good laugh, even if you have to look in the mirror. (My favorite line.)
On behalf of all the chaplains, may G-d bless you and keep you safe. Should you need a shoulder to lean on or an ear to listen, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
