listened to us sooner, we might have prevented a lot of cases. Through this entire pandemic, we have consistently brought up to the Department that officers on the front lines should receive hazard pay. We commissioned a survey of residents in the city, and 63 percent of the people contacted were in favor of providing hazard
pay to police officers.
One of the first questions we asked was whether people have a
favorable opinion of Chicago Police Officers. Of the respondents, 42.2 percent answered, “very favorable” and 24 percent answered, “somewhat favorable.” We have sent these results to the City, and
with the help of our attorneys, we will continue to make our case for hazard pay.
Lastly, I want to respond to everyone asking when the Lodge 7 runoff election for president will be completed. As soon as possible. It is in the hands of the election committee. The committee needs to gather a group of people to count the votes in the runoff, and it has not been safe to do so. Believe me, I want to conclude this election as quickly as everyone else.
I continue to urge all members to be safe out there. Don’t take the risks you feel are unnecessary or unreasonable, and many thanks for keeping the city and its residents safe in these unprecedented and unimaginable times.
