November Officer Award
Police Officer Jennifer Jacobucci Star #4783
On June 21, Officer Jennifer Jacobucci was return- ing to her assignment at O’Hare Airport after com- pleting a station assignment at Headquarters. While traveling westbound on Interstate 90, Jacobucci ob- served thick, black smoke just off the expressway. She monitored the zone radio through which she learned that there was a house fire on the 2700 block of Campbell. Although she was far from her assigned unit, Jacobucci went to the scene, arrived before the Chicago Fire Department and immediately jumped into action.
Jacobucci notified the zone that she was on the screen and discovered that the fire was spreading to the building next door. Without hesitation, she entered the three flat, quickly notifying residents to evacuate the building. After escorting a female with two dogs from the second floor, and two females, one male and a dog from the first floor, she continued to clear the building, room by room, to ensure that ev- eryone made it out safely.
Had Jacobucci not reacted immediately to the threat of fire, it is quite possible that four citizens and three dogs may have perished. Officer Jennifer Jaco- bucci is truly a hero. She was taken to a nearby hos- pital where she was treated and released for smoke inhalation.
It is with great appreciation that the Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago Lodge #7, presents Officer Jennifer Jacobucci with a Life Saving Award. d
