FOP Firearm Safety Days on target
On May 22-23, the Lodge hosted its annual Fire- arm Safety Days. Nearly 300 members participated in this event, having their service weapons cleaned, inspected and, if necessary, repaired. More than 1,000 weapons were checked over the course of the two-day event.
During a routine inspection of one member’s service weapon, a small fracture in the frame of the weapon was discovered by one of the armorers. Thankfully for everyone involved, this issue was identified and addressed under a controlled envi-
ronment, rather than under the stress of a discharge in the field. Jim Peck, a retired member and representative of Rock River Arms, said, “This makes it all worth the effort. If we can save one officer from having a serious issue in the field, it’s all worth it!”
