 Bless our officers
It was a day to honor the fallen and to pray for the communities that make up Chicago’s 1st District. In advance of National Police Week in Washing- ton, D.C., the Illinois Police Officers Memorial and the Chicago Lodge 7 Memorial in May, the First District gathered for a blessing on April 27 to commemorate those they’ve recently lost, including Commander Paul Bau- er and Officer Samuel Jimenez.
Bauer was the highest-ranking Chi- cago officer to be lost in the line of duty in nearly 30 years. He was shot and killed in February 2018. Offi- cer Jimenez was lost responding to a shooting at Mercy Hospital and Med- ical Center in November 2018. Both worked in 001.
“We decided that before we went to our memorial in Washington, D.C., we would hold a prayer vigil here for heal- ing and to protect those who enter in and out of our station,” said Darrin Bourret, the Chicago Lodge 7 repre- sentative in 001. “It was a blessing for healing and for strength and courage.”
