Crunching the numbers
Hello from the Pension Office. Recently, ru- mors have spread like wildfire concerning the influx of retirements. Some believe that up- wards to 1,000 officers will be pulling the pin by the time our FOP contract expires on June 30, 2017. I collected data from records here at the pension fund and created a very brief chart with 5-and-a-half years of employees who pay into the fund their 9 percent contribution.
I’m going to let you decide what road our Chicago Po- lice Department is heading down when it comes to hiring and retirements. The counts below come directly from a deduction file sent from the city of Chicago and are unau- dited. These numbers reflect from the Superintendent on down – all ranks. Also, the totals might not include officers who are in the process of retiring, receiving military pay, on a leave of absence or engaged in other miscellaneous actions. When all is said and done, these numbers would change on a daily basis, but remain in the ballpark of working employees.
City Hall and Headquarters security, etc. under the rank of sergeant. I hope this answers some ques- tions out there. Be safe, my brothers and sisters. God bless you and all first responders throughout the land in these trying times of resentments to-
wards us. d
