Friendly faces perform selfless acts
Recently I bumped into an old friend, Offi- cer Mike Tomaso, on regular rounds in the dis- tricts. He and his team are to be commended for their hard work keeping crime at bay. It’s always a pleasure to join our men and wom- en on the street at all hours as you continue to selflessly perform your duties despite the current biased rhetoric so many news outlets spew. Please know that your vital work is ap-
preciated by the educated, tax paying, law-abiding public – and blessed by God himself (see Romans chapter 13 in your Bible).
Many of our officers and supervisors represent-
ed CPD during recent police funerals in Texas, Michigan and Louisiana. I had the honor of join-
ing them for one of these funerals. What a strong re- minder of the brother-and-sisterhood those in your most noble profession share! Thank you to our Department for helping make this happen, and thank you to supporters of the Brotherhood For the Fallen for helping provide the means to represent CPD.
The Brotherhood put together last-minute fundraisers last month that drew thousands of supporters. A hand-

When it’s raining and cold, and you’re glad to be in your home with your family, we’re out there.
When it’s your child’s birthday, we’re out there. When it’s our child’s birthday, we’re still out there. You put on a suit and dress to go to work, we strap on a ballistic vest and a gun.
There’s little room for error in your job, in ours there is none.
An error by you means a demotion; an error by us means a funeral.
When you tell your families “see you tonight” as you leave for work, you mean it. When we tell our family that, we pray we will.
At your job you strive to succeed, at our job we strive to survive.
In your job one bad person is the talk of the office; in our job one bad officer makes the news and sud- denly we’re all bad.
In the headlines it’s not what good we’ve done, but how much better it could have been done.
When you’re scared you call us; when we’re scared,
some sum was raised for the families of those officers who were murdered and injured. Kudos to the Brotherhood For the Fallen! If you’d like to join this worthwhile organization, please see the link on our website.
Finally, I’d like to offer a word of thanks
to the folks at O’Brien’s on Wells Street for their generous
hospitality at last month’s happy hour in support of our ministry. And thanks to all our regular support-

ers, as well.
And, last call: Are you a fan of Billy Joel? He’s
playing Wrigley Field on Aug. 26. If you’d like to join us, we’ve rented out a rooftop across the street for the occasion. A $125 fee covers admission and un- limited food/drinks. We sold out last year, so call or email
soon if you’re interested.
See you out there, and God bless.d

we must carry on.
While you’re eating a home cooked meal, we’re hav- ing another hamburger.
While you’re asleep with your spouse, ours sleep alone.
So the next time you’re out with your family or friends, and you see a patrol car go by, remember the incredible sacrifice made by these officers every day.
Inside that car is a person that sacrifices his/her life, both professionally and personally every day, please keep them in your prayers.
On behalf of all your chaplains, thanks for going out ev- ery day to do the holy work that you do. Should you need a shoulder to lean on, or an ear to listen, or perhaps some good humor to share, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
May G-d bless you and keep you safe. Amen. d
