For your defense and other benefits
RECORDING SECRETARY’S REPORT
GREG BELLA
The best benefit you have as an active FOP mem- ber is legal defense. If you have to write a To/From subject report to answer CR allegations or a witness statement, you can come to the office or call the Lodge and we can assist you. If you have to make an oral statement, call the office and we will make sure an attorney accompanies you to IAD or IPRA. This is a benefit and right that you have; so please use it.
Employee indebtedness
Members are reminded every few weeks in the Daily Bulletin that Administrative Special Order 05- 05 outlines that you have to resolve outstanding debt to the City. Questions regarding debt owed to the City should be directed to the Department of Revenue at 312-744-8477. Members are reminded that unresolved debt is subject to wage garnishment. If you check the Police Board’s website, you will find a member was separated in October for not paying parking tickets. Please take these notices
seriously. Do not put yourself or your family at risk.
Retiree healthcare
You will receive this after the Nov. 2 hearing on retiree health- care at the Daley Center in front of Judge Cohen. You can go to the Lodge 7 website for the update. This is going to be a long and pro- tracted fight and you can send donations to attorney Clint Krislov, 20 N. Wacker Drive; Suite 1300, Chicago, IL 60606
If this case is not resolved by 2017, when the City wants to stop paying for Korshak/Underwood retiree healthcare, the Lodge has
been working to have a plan in place. Our goal is to win the lawsuit and make the City pay us the benefits that we earned and are entitled to receive. If this case takes an unforeseen turn, we have been working for the past two years to have a plan in place so that you are not left without insurance coverage. Hopefully all of this work was just an exercise.
IROCC vs. Conceal/Carry
With the recent passing of HB0183, we have been receiving a lot of calls from retirees regarding conceal/carry. HB0183 allows you to carry only in the state of Illinois. HR 218 IROCC allows you to carry nationwide and recognizes you as retired law enforcement. The IROCC program exists solely for retired law enforcement offi- cers residing in Illinois. IROCC is funded by your application fee and receives zero state funding. You receive an identification card from IROCC that allows you to conceal carry nationwide, and there is a 24-hour verification line. Your card can be verified any day, any time.
Clarification
HB0183 Illinois (civilian) concealed carry and IROCC (retired law enforcement officers) conceal carry are totally separate pro- grams. HB0183 (civilian) concealed carry mandates 16 hours training with exemptions. IROCC (retired law enforcement offi- cers) concealed carry has never required the 16 hours training.
Have a great Thanksgiving and remember our brothers and sis- ters working this holiday protecting the City. d
