Undercover, Patrol and Tactical Officers, as well as those from Spe- cial Units, took advantage of the Get Behind The Vest Program spon- sored by the Chicago Police Memo- rial Foundation (CPMF) to get new vests. Body Armor provider Point Blank and Distributor Pro-Tech Sales fit 956 officers with new vests during the five days. Officers had to pay $100 plus the cost of added fea- tures to get the body armor due to the CPMF sponsorship and the pro- gram Pro-Tech has provided.
Eric Drellishak of Pro-Tech noted that many officers are opting for Point Blank’s Alpha Elite III vest because it is the lightest, most flexi- ble model. “If it’s comfortable, offi- cers are more likely to wear it,” he added.
During the fitting, a homicide call came into the 15th District, and Drellishak said the fitting room cleared out with all officers responding. Good thing they had their vests.
