On July 4, 2020, the officers responded to a person shot at 6559 S. Halsted St. Upon arriving on scene, the first shooting victim was located at 66th and Halsted. The officers canvassed the area and located a second shooting victim at 636 W. 65th St., lying be- tween the curb and his crashed vehicle’s open door. The second
shooting victim appeared to be slipping in and out of conscious- ness and was saturated in blood. The officers sprang into action, donning rubber gloves and quickly assessing the victim for inju- ries.
The officers carried the victim to the sidewalk and located the source of his excessive bleeding. The officers located a gunshot wound to the victim’s right leg and applied pressure and a tour- niquet to stop the arterial bleeding. The officers kept the victim awake and breathing during this entire ordeal and prevented the victim from slipping into unconsciousness. CFD finally arrived on scene and related that the medical treatment provided by these officers saved the victim’s life. These officers’ quick actions and application of their equipment and training displayed the Department’s highest priority: the sanctity of life.
It is with great appreciation that the Fraternal Order of Po- lice Lodge 7 presents these officers with the Life Saving Award.
